Momentum is pleased to present A Place for Light, a solo exhibition by Mexican photographer Alfredo De Stefano, bringing together two bodies of work developed through his long-standing engagement with the desert: Storm of Light(2008–2018) and BURN (2023–ongoing).
For more than three decades, De Stefano has developed a photographic practice rooted in desert landscapes, constructing temporary interventions with objects, structures, natural materials, light, and fire. Across these works, photography becomes closely connected to the actions and conditions through which the images are made.
In Storm of Light, objects, structures, and human figures are placed within deserts including the Sahara, Atacama, Namib, Gobi, and Puna. BURN extends this practice through the use of fire as an active element within the intervention, physically transforming the objects and structures as they are photographed.
