Uchronie

Vincent Fournier
2023

Published in conjunction with Vincent Fournier’s 2023 exhibition at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris, Uchronie explores our relationship with nature, technology, and the ways we imagine the future.

The title refers to an alternative version of history: a world in which things might have evolved differently. Fournier uses this idea as a starting point for a body of work that moves between reality, fiction, science, and imagination. Two recurring visions of the future come together in the book: the dream of space exploration and the technological reinvention of living things.

Bringing together works from several of Fournier’s series—including Space Utopia, Post Natural History, Auctus animalis, and Flora Incognita—the book presents photographs alongside works created through 3D printing, sculpture, jewelry, mosaic, music, and film. Together, they create a hybrid world where scientific research and technological possibilities meet childhood wonder, poetry, and speculation.

Published by Filigranes Éditions in collaboration with the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Uchronie offers an expansive view of Fournier’s practice and his ongoing interest in imagining alternative futures.
