ÓSCAR FARFÁN
(Guatemala, 1973) Lives and works in Mexico City.
Óscar Farfán works primarily with photography, as well as video, text, and installation, addressing questions of memory, conflict, and the representation of social narratives. He received an MFA with distinction from UNAM in Mexico City in 2009. His work has been exhibited internationally in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil, the United States, France, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, and China, among other countries.
Farfán has received the Emerging Artist Grant & Commissions Program from the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), the Acquisition Prize at the IX Bienal FEMSA in Monterrey, and the Lucas Artists Visual Arts Fellowship (2019–22). He received an honorable mention at the XVIII Photography Biennial of Centro de la Imagen (2018) and First Prize at the III Oaxaca Photography Biennial. He has been a three-time recipient of Mexico’s FONCA SNCA grant (2011–13, 2015–17, and 2021–24), as well as the FONCA Fomento y Coinversiones Grant. In 2026, he was selected for Museo Amparo’s Flash 4.0 curatorial initiative. His work has been featured in publications including Alquimia, Gatopardo, Exit, and ArtNexus, and is held in collections including FEMSA, CIFO, and Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil (MACG).
