Momentum Fine Art is proud to announce its upcoming exhibit at the 2017 Zona Maco Foto Fair in Mexico City, Mexico on September 20-24 at Banamex Conference Center.

Titled IMPULSO MEXICO, the exhibit will present a diverse set of work consisting of a cinematic approach, each artist with his or her own contemporary narrative. The exhibition will feature work from Momentum artists Formento + Formento (USA), Ole Marius Joergensen (Norway), Maria Svarbova (Slovakia), Floria Gonzalez (Mexico), and Jiro Ishihara (Japan).

Formento + Formento are known for their romantic and stylish photographs that explore de-saturated, cinematic scenes with themes of love, longing, and the burden of memory. Their style reveals a fascination with mood and texture, and a sense of place and time figures prominently.

Encompassing America, Cuba, Mexico, India, and Japan, Formento + Formento blend fervent passion for photography and film with a lasting love for one another. Their work has invoked a passionate following in a short time with representation and exhibitions that span the globe.

In contrast, the work of Maria Svarbova is grounded in a specific location: her fascination with the imagery of swimming pools contributed to developing her dramatic visual style. Sterile, geometric beauty of old-style pools set the tone for these photographs. Each of them presents a different pool, typical of the Socialist Era, throughout various locations in Slovakia.

There is a cinematographic quality to the highly controlled sceneries that Maria captures. The figures are mid-movement, but they show no joy or playfulness. The colors softly vibrate in a dream-like atmosphere. Despite the retro setting, the pictures somehow evoke a futuristic feeling as well, as if they were taken somewhere completely alien. There is no disturbed emotion, there is no individuality in their stillness. The artificial detachment, created by Maria's visual representation, allows unique visual pleasure, unattainable in real life.

Unlike Formento and Svarbova, Ole Marius Joergensen’s (Norway) work has a distinct surrealist slant combined with Norwegian humor. With a unique painterly cinematic feel, Joergensen’s work is driven by its mysterious narrative, in part Hopper and in part David Lynch.  Oftentime the works are immersed in darker themes; his iconic images reflect the dreams and mysteries of his countrymen and raise questions of identity.

Floria Gonzalez is a fine art photographer, videographer, and creator of Floto Studio, a production company based in Mexico City. Her work focuses on the darker themes of the human experience, including man’s fears, traumas, and doubts. Although melancholic and seemingly grounded in the past, her work is a contemporary vision of spirituality and science that ask essential questions of life.

From Japan, Jiro Ishihara is a contemporary artist living in Saitama prefecture who creates precise photographs sculptures where the theme is the nature of photo media. He was the artist in residency at Cite Internationale des Arts (France), Civitella Ranieri Center (Italy) and at Archipelago Art Residency in Korpo (Finland).
