Momentum Fine Art is saddened to learn of the passing of a member of the fine art community and sends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of photographer Leila Asaoui.
Leila Alaoui was on assignment for Amnesty International in Burkina Faso during the terrorist attacks on January 16. She died on January 19 from injuries she sustained during the attack.
Leila was a talented artist who has exhibited all over the world, and whose passion for her craft is revealed in each of her images. Known for documenting human rights and women’s rights issues, Leila shared narratives through the individual traditions and heritages that she captured in uniquely powerful, subtle imagery. I had the pleasure of discussing a collaboration with Leila last summer and am saddened by this tremendous loss. She was a creative, talented artist and will be missed in the photography and art communities.
